Karen Armstrong Message Board

Jimmy West posts on 5/24/2011 7:22:34 PM Re. Your Charter for Compassion. IT is a wonderful idea but is doomed to failure and here is why: You have excluded LOVE as the driving force of compassion. Love is not mentioned anywhere in the charter and without it the movement will die. Compassion can be based on love or based on desire and obligation. The difference is when it is based on love, it is always turned and comes from the soul. When it is based on anything else it is something that is turned on based on some sort of stimuli, either by hearing or sight, and comes from the brain. Only love will assure the success of the movement.

Gary Banuk posts on 10/21/2010 9:32:16 PM Ms Arrmstrong; I read your book "Muhammad, A Prophet For our Time" I was wondering about, since you wrote the book, what your feelings are now or even if you dare say what they are? You presented Muhammad as a fighter with peacefull intent. How did the religion become tainted by violence over time?

Quest posts on 9/28/2010 10:40:17 PM Ms. Armstrong: I'm amazed at the wealth of information you have accumulated and how you can present it to someone like I. I consider myself now to be a gnostic, someone seeking the truth. I was finally able to purchase your book " A History of God' and while reading close to the end of chapter 2,I started to get just that little glimpse of how powerful God must truly be. Very rarely do I get a book that excites me to find out what the author believes. And I wonder if their will be your conclusion at the end. I still can't get over how my mind was expanded with those few simple paragraph's in Chapter Two. Now on to Chap. 3. I think I shall have to purchase your other works. You are not for the simple repeating of dogma in today's society and I am glad during my search I stumbled upon you. Thank you.
Jim Antenore posts on 9/16/2010 11:49:46 PM I have recently requested a way to send Karen Armstrong a few papers I thought she would be interested in reading. Since I do not have a useful address, I asked on this message board if Karen would be kind enough to let me know how to mail something to her. I have not heard. Maybe not enough time has passed to have received an answer. On the other hand, maybe I will not hear at all. Can someone suggest a way for me to acquire this information without compromising Ms. Armstrong's privacy? Thanks!
Ray Mandy posts on 9/16/2010 1:02:31 PM Dear karen, can you comment on the Persecution of Baha'is by Islamic Courts and Theocracy ? and how that fits into the teaching of Islam for Peace and Brotherhood ? Also, can you comment on how it is that Muslims convert people of other Faiths, but if other Faiths try to convert Muslims, they will face the death penalty, for both the converted and the convertee ? Thank you Ray
