Nick (Powell) and Nora Charles (Loy) look into the mysterious killing of bandleader Tommy Drake (Reed). Involved is an all-star cast of character actors: Jayne Meadows as Drake's new wife; Gloria Grahame, as the band's vocalist and; and Keenan Wynn, as "Clinker" Krause, a musician who's trying to help the Charleses navigate the musicians' world. (Dean Stockwell (!) is now young Nicky Charles.)

This is the final installment in the "Thin Man" films. It was an amazing time in Loy's career with this sandwiched between “The Best Years of Our Lives” and “The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer” prior and “Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House” yet to come.
