Four American serviceman, including Monty (Robert Ryan) and Mitchell (George Cooper) go on leave in Los Angeles. They meet Joseph Samuels (Sam Levene) in a nightclub. Samuels invites Mitchell to his apartment. Later, the police find Samuels beaten to death. They suspect Mitchell, but Sergeant Keeley (Robert Mitchum) helps Detective Finlay (Robert Young) discover the real killer who committed the crime in an act of anti-semitism.
