Audiences will go to films if actress is dating famous actor. For some reason Evelyn seemed to think that audiences would be more likely to see her films if she were dating a famous actor. That may help but I think is hardly essential, but was presented as a central plot of the book. When you go to the movies today you have no idea who most actors are married to, or if they are married at all.
