Martina Cole Message Board

jane posts on 12/4/2006 2:17:59 PM I have read all of martinas books and enjoyed them with relish. But close as been hard work I plodded through it and was over halfway before it got gripping. I wont be put off by this as everyone can have a cuckoo in the nest. Looking forward to the next book hope she is back on track.
Donna Thatcher posts on 12/4/2006 7:45:46 AM Does any one know why Ice Cream? is it cockney rhyming slang for something?
Deana posts on 12/1/2006 5:39:16 AM jenny & debbie from the east end - i'm in total agreement with you both. Ladykiller was my first delve into the wonderful world of Martina and it blew my head off!! I had to then go and buy, beg, borrow and steal all the other which were fab also. I was disappointed in the graft and the take wasn't her best but she's always gritty and brilliant and i cant wait to read the close and i'm sure i'll send my opinion in when i do!!

Debbie from East End posts on 11/25/2006 5:27:42 PM Martina's books are the best, we all have our fave books, mine are Ladykiller,Two women and Dangerous Lady. Give her a break, as Ray Winston says 'she tells it how it is!'

Jenny posts on 11/23/2006 5:59:46 PM That was the first on ethat I read that got me into her books! Enjoy indeed!
rory posts on 11/22/2006 11:39:41 AM today is a perfect day to do some reading and I got out the runaways and this blew away my winter blues,if you are ever in london and walking around soho or hoxton and you have read these books you get the feeling that she knows her stuff big time. ENJOY
Jenny posts on 11/20/2006 2:45:20 PM Woo bit harsh there! We are not saying we want her to be the next Hemmingway, we are just pointing out that her novels are not as enthralling as they used to be. There isnt the depth of her old novels and she doesnt seem to be putting her heart and soul into them. Have you read Two Women? That is Martina at her absolute peak and while not a lot can beat that one (it is actually her fave as well) her first 8 or so novels were of similar quality and style and she seems to be churning them out now cos its expected. I havent read Close yet cos I always get her new one for Xmas but I will still read it but I also hope that she starts to turn out a couple in the caliber of Two Women and Dangerous Lady again!
sharon-kate posts on 11/20/2006 5:51:15 AM You people are crazy. I respect you all have an opinion but Martina Cole is designed to be a good fiction novel. It is not suppose to read like the next Hemingway so stop being so hard on her. Its a good tale, although a little predictable, that you can enjoy to the end and then move on to something else.
Sam posts on 11/19/2006 12:24:23 PM Just finished close. I am a massive fan but I did feel slightly let down. It seemed really slow at the beginning really picked up pace two thirds of the way through and then at the end I had so many un answered questions. I also feel that there was a lot of loose ends and some really random paragraphs in it which made me think there was going to be more happening. I also guessed the ending of the book after the first few pages...
