Martina Cole Message Board

Bridie Davies posts on 2/10/2009 11:08:09 AM I have been a fan of martina Cole for many years and would wait paitently for her new book. Not anymore, there's an author called Lesley Pearse, I don't know how popular she is I've only recently come across her name while looking for a Martina replacement. I must say, she is fantastic. Every book so far has been unputdownable. I'd really recommend her.
jill clifford posts on 2/7/2009 1:24:20 PM Just wanted to let everyone know that i received an email the other night from Sheila Quigley and she has indeed found an agent for Road to Hell. She asked if i could go to the library and vote for her on something called 'Dagger in the Library'. Not sure what it is but apparently, if she gets lots of votes it will really help her. Please take a few minutes out of your day and sign up for this. I'm sure you are as eager as i am to read 'Road to Hell' so if we all make a little bit of an effort, it could be on the shelves pretty soon! We need to encourage our favourite authors as much as we can, especially as we can no longer rely on Martina to keep us entertained!

I have bought and read all MARTINA COLE,S books, and the last 4 have certainly been a let down to her previous books.

LuluNZ posts on 1/2/2009 6:08:08 PM Well I am pleased to see I am not the only one dissapointed in the recent Martina Cole books. However, is this not the problem with most succesfull writers? They start off great and you wait ages for a book. The next thing you know they are being churned out at an alarming rate of one a year. I don't know if anyone else spotted in the latest book The Business. Towards the end of the story when Jorge's boyfriend is murdered (you will remeber it as the writing was different to the rest of the book). I was skimming the pages when the old Martina was back and it was her writing. I couldn't turn the pages quick enough. No repetition we were just straight into and onwards with the story. Then it all stopped again. I have seen this with other writers and wondered if ghost writers are used with her books now. This is when someone else writes in their style with their ideas to speed up the process. If you are a keen Martina Cole reader you will know what I mean about this certain part of her book I have described.
sioux posts on 1/2/2009 8:28:03 AM Yes what brilliant books all her earlier books were. I have read them all. What an amzing writer. However, unfortunately i too have just finished The Business and I won't be buying her next one either. I feel over recent times (the past three specifically) have become too formulaic and the characters are lacking dimension. I will still be recommending Martina to readers who have not read her earlier books before but i will no longer be spending my $$$$ on her books.
