Trisha posts on 12/16/2011 2:01:15 AM Respected Jean Madam, I have recently finished reading your novel Mayada-Daughter of Iraq and I must admit that before reading this novel I hardly had any idea about the tortures which the women underwent during Saddam Hussein's regime. It's consistently gripping and is bound to hold one's attention towards it from the beginning till the end.I was shocked and painstaken with grief while going through the life stories of different shadow women at Baladiyat. However,Mayada's struggle has inspired me.All in all, this book was an eye opener for me.Thanks Mam..!

bev henwood posts on 8/28/2011 12:11:57 AM Hello Jean, I have just finished reading your Growing Up Bin Laden book. I picked it up with trepidation, fearing a shock/horror piece. Such a pleasant surprise. I loved that you offered a voice to Najwa and Omar, that your own comments were minimal and added valuable context to their words. I feel grateful to them for their courage in telling their stories, their love for this complex man, their struggle to deal with his direction and decisions, the cost of taking themselves out of his life. I don't know if you have ongoing contact with them, but I would love to convey to them my appreciation for their honesty, my empathy for their struggle, and my sympathy for what must indeed be a loss to them, even in the midst of the turmoil of the hatred that surrounds Osama's life and acts. I wish them both well, I hope the missing people are safe, and I hope the binLaden name eventually becomes known for the work for peace that Omar does, as well as the violence of Osama. I thank you for your work. I will look for more of your works now.
Joe Towne posts on 5/12/2011 4:23:24 AM Dear Mrs. Sasson; Since the death of Osama Bin Laden I have been working on a life timeline for an article I am doing about his life. When looking for his birthdate I have found dozens of publications that list his birth date as March 10, 1957. I even found a source that claims to have seen his birth record via an Interpol document that also gives this as his birth date. In your book “'Growing Up Bin Laden” you give February 15 1957, as his birth date. I know that one cannot change what is printed in a book once it is published and I also am certain that an author of your stature and credibility would want to know if the data in your book is correct. Do you still stand by the February 15 date, or do you agree with the March 10th date. Thank you very much for your continuing good work.
Jean Sasson posts on 7/14/2010 1:18:02 PM Thanks for your kind words, Amanada. I think people who won God's good looks lottery are very lucky, but I was always happy just being healthy and having won the "happy gene" lottery... smile.... I was born a happy person and see the positives in most things. I feel badly for people who are so negative. I guess they can't help it but it sure does make the world a less pleasant place. Back to good looks. I see many women who are beautiful in their youth and they really suffer when they lose those looks. The one thing that stays with us is our personality because looks fade with all humans as it is a part of the aging process. If anyone is lucky enough to get old, that is a small price to pay. I love my active life of books and writing and getting to know the marvelous people I am lucky enough to write about. Human life is VERY interesting, isn't it? For now, have a wonderful day... Jean
AMANDA posts on 7/14/2010 11:30:57 AM Jean... i am very puzzled that anyone would care or comment about your weight, what does that have to do with your wonderful writing...? every picture i have seen of you, you are just beautiful. The beautiful soul you show in your writing... who cares what weight? Is it just because youare a woman that your weight is a concern, to anyone except your doctor? I dont care if you are as slender as a snake or as big as an elephant, you are welcome in my house anyday.... i don't care what skin colour you are either, or how short or tall... thought this forum is to share about Jean's books...very puzzling...
Jean Sasson posts on 7/14/2010 11:12:21 AM Dear All, I can rarely log on to the site for some reason. I'm trying again! It's been a very busy year and I am just starting my new writing project. This will be a very different book and I can't wait to get into it. I'll let you know more later. As to my weight, it is strange to me that anyone would care one way or another. But thank goodness I am not one of those women fighting aging. It is a good thing to get older and along with age comes weight, at least for many people. One day I'll start exercising but seems I can never find the time. Talk to you all later! Love, Jean
Cindy White posts on 7/10/2010 12:08:07 PM I recently met jean sasson in person. She is very beautiful in fact and does not seem to give a lot of thought to physical beauty but is naturally beautiful. She is a woman in her 50's, so she has gained weight, but is still very very pretty and doesn't look over 45. The person posting the comment about weight must be quite rude and uneducated to say such a thing. The most important point for me is that Jean Sasson seems to really care about people. She is easy to meet, smiles and asks people about their lives. I think she really cares about others -- she could not pretend so successfully. She has been writing books fro 20 years now and has a lot of wonderful books out there. My personal favorites are: MAYADA and GROWING UP BIN LADEN.
Hamar posts on 2/24/2010 7:48:21 PM Why Jean put on lot of kilos. I see Jean in c-Span with Omar and Grandmother wife.
