Before my mom divorced from my abusive father, my older sister suffered abuse from him, he would hit her, insult her constantly and punished her, but he wouldn't abuse the same way. He for example told me (I was 4 by that time) that my mom's cooking was poisoned and would take me to a fast food restaurant everyday so I would think he was good to me and my mom was bad. The fact is he was abusing me by not letting me eat healthy food and making me hate my mother, but if you asked me back then if he abused me I would say no, so maybe that's the vision of the other two children, maybe the form of abuse wasn't the same. I don't think that she exagerates the story because I have seen so much abuse in my life that some of the things she describes are nothing in comparison. After my mom left my father she would hit us with her high heels, broomsticks, she would try to choke us, sometimes she banged our heads against the walls several times until she saw blood, she would left us three days without food, just drinking water, we had to wash our school uniforms in the shower with soap, our clothes were all second handed and our shoes. If you asked my little sister if she received the same kind of abuse as my older sister she would say no, maybe she would say it was not as bad, but ask a phsicologist and maybe he'll tell differently. Every kind of abuse is wrong, and affect the victims. My older sister's life is a mess, she's got 4 kids and she abuses them, and my little sister and I, well, we're a different story. We have a better relationship with our mother, but occasionally she says she was a great mother and start talking about the great things she did for us (All part of her imagination)and as we keep silent we are able to mantain a good relationship with her, but as we part from her house we're upset that we can't tell her anything. Please don't judge Christina. She needed to do that to keep on living. There are people who are great friends, but bad husbands or wives, or great parents but hate to work, or great employees but terrible brothers or sisters. People can be great at doing something but that doesn't mean they have to be great in everything, maybe Joan Crawford was a great actress but her personal life was a mess. My mom was great at college and work, if I tell all this to her friends they would say I'm a liar, that's why nobody will ever know.

I have read most of the messages and find them disturbing!
I was a child who lived with mother with mental health and alcoholism and it was a nightmare. I went into care at the age of 12 and moved to several foster parents but it was better than my previous life with my mother. I am 36 years old and the past still haunts me. I am a social worker and adoption is a complex area now compared to the time Christina was adopted. I believe her story and understand her emotional pain which has nothing to do with material items.

Everyone, If you haven't figured it out by now, anonymous has some serious issues. That's why he can relate to Mommie dearest and disfunction. Just ignore him and he will find another place to post his ridiculous remarks that don't make any sense.
