V.C. Andrews Message Board

PCGuy posts on 2/4/2014 12:22:21 PM Anyway, I guess you might say I'm a reader. The books aren't exactly pleasant. Not when the theme is continued suffering of characters. I usually don't end up liking whole series. For instance: I liked Flowers in the Attic very well. the sequel they did after was good although I spotted a couple places where the story differed from the first book and could not be. Then they did a prequel (For those that don't know - its a book written after about reverse events). Anyway, it was written from the Grandmothers point of view but you will notice there are tons of holes where it breaks the story line and to do it off its about how a monster of a human comes into being!!! AKA the grandmother that would imprison 4 children in an attic 2 of them just barely past tying there shoes! Sadness. Anyway, going back to Flowers in the Attic there is actually a sort of silver lining of happiness, the four children live together as a unit in there confines and manage to not die without freedom as the people outside there confines turns against them.
cheryl posts on 9/14/2011 6:03:58 AM I have been a fan of V.C. Andrews since I was 12. I have read every one of the books she has out to date. I love them all some more than others but I have also found that people start to think the passion started failing in the books after 1987. I think what people have to realize is that all the stories that have been coming out since she passed away are STILL her stories!!!! She has many stories that didn't have a chance to get finished or published before her passing but the famy still wants them to be put together and published for the true fans of Andrews. Take into concideration that someone else is trying to make her stories the way they are to be read but the only person who could put the same love and feeling into them was Andrews. So I would like to give props to those who have continued her work.... Thank you from a # 1 fan. Also to the one talking about picking up rain and not being able to get into it have you read the wildflowers series? That one is a good series to due with every day stuff
ReikaGreen posts on 7/26/2011 2:03:34 PM So I have decided to start reading the novels again. I've just finished The first novel Flowers in the Attic. I can't wait to read the next one! I first discovered the Flowers in the Attic series of books when I was in High School. I loved this series! It was so haunting. I just love the subtle way horror was written into these books. It was like she tried to trick you into not seeing it as a horror and built up into these horrifying events that happens at the end of each novel. Then I read Heaven. This series is great too! It was just the same kind of slow haunting horror that I loved from the first series. But then ... The series' that came after, well, they just weren't the same. The truly terrifying horror aspect was slowly dying off. By the time I pick up Rain (I had read all the series' before that) I just couldn't get into these books any longer and I couldn't stand to be dissapointed once again looking for that beautifully, hauntingly, horrific tale that never came back. Needless to say I have not read any series that came after that. Hopefully someone in this message board can tell me that one of the newer series has gotten that wonderful aspect that was V.C. Andrews back. I want to be terrified and surprised and freakout. I know it sounds weird but I love that kind of story. Maybe someone could point me in the direction of a series of novels that is similar to what I was refering to here.

TC posts on 7/6/2011 11:22:08 AM Selene, I bought most of the Heaven and Flowers series on ebay, most people are selling their old books for really low prices, just watch out for condition, they may have binding that has disintegrated. Also, charity stores such as Salvation Army and St Vincent De Paul are great places to find old books

Raney posts on 4/5/2011 2:30:06 AM I have started reading the VC Andrews books again recently, and I am rediscovering why I became so addicted to the Flowers in the Attic and Heaven series when I was in junior high and high school, which was years and years ago! Well, only about 20 years ago but it seems longer. My question to other readers who are catching up on the various series like I am, if the entire series is already out including the prequel, have you ever considered reading the prequel first and then continuing on with the series from there? For example, reading Tarnished Gold first and then reading Ruby followed by all the other books in order? I have finished the Ruby series, and I am now starting TG. Just like with the Heaven series, the prequel ended on such a sad note whereas the last book of the series ended with a happily-ever-after feel (for the most part). I just hate ending a series feeling sad!
